Palmer Township Kiwanis Happenings

Rev. Pat Weber introduced June 05, 2024 speaker, his daughter, Gretchen Duff, who works with Bethany Christian Services.

The number of children in foster care in PA is approximately 15,000; 19 placements occur each month, looking at foster care as the only option. It’s a constant struggle.

Safe Families for Children is one of the organizations Gretchen works with to help families change for the betterment of their children…one goal at a time; using churches and family volunteers. The outcomes are statistically high – 90%.

The other program in Luzerne County is Homebuilders, helping to build parental skills to keep the family together. The work they do is amazing.  They start some efforts within 24 hours of notification of a need. Their work is all encompassing and very intensive, providing a great deal of satisfaction for the families.

• There is nothing like this in Northampton County. She encourages anyone with connections to look into these programs for our county.
